Grapevine’s Nash Farm announces the second year of the First Fridays at the Farm series. Starting in Feb. and taking place through Dec., the 2014 series features family-friendly educational experiences designed to teach life skills that were important to a Texas farm in the 19th century.

Daily life in Texas during the late 1800s required knowledge of a number of skills, methods and even recipes that will be demonstrated during the monthly sessions. Participants work alongside the Nash Farmhands to learn these life skills. Each month features a different theme, and a participation fee of $3 per person is required. All sessions are scheduled for 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. The session schedule for 2014 is:

  • Historic Foodways, Feb. 7 – Experience the way farmers grew, harvested, cooked and preserved food;
  • Urban Homesteading, March 7 – Learn about urban homesteading techniques that can be incorporated into today’s modern lifestyle;
  • Spinning and Weaving, April 4 – Turn fibers into fabric to use for a variety of farm life needs;
