The DFW Connector project has announced that NorthGate Constructors will complete work this Monday at Main Street bridge, one of four intersections over SH 114 on the DFW Connector project.

During the past two months, crews have continually worked to complete construction at the north intersection by Thanksgiving.

According to the release, Main Street bridge will open to eight lanes in time for the holiday season, allowing two northbound lanes, two southbound lanes, two left turn lanes and a U-turn on either side of the bridge.

Crews plan to complete the islands and other finishing touches at Main Street after the holidays.

The final traffic pattern change at Main Street is scheduled for Monday, Nov. 19 at 8 p.m. to Tuesday, Nov. 20 at 6 a.m.

“As the Christmas Capital of Texas, this time of year is very important to merchants, shoppers and visitors to Grapevine,” Bruno Rumbelow, city manager for the City of Grapevine, said in the release. “The full opening of the Main Street bridge, which leads into our fun and festive Historic District, is especially important because it adds critical capacity during one of the busiest times of the year, and it signals an end to the construction in the coming months.”

Along with opening Main Street bridge, the DFW Connector project will observe a no lane closure period to limit the impact of traffic during the Thanksgiving holiday. Beginning Tuesday, Nov. 20 at 12 p.m. to Monday, Nov. 26 at 8 p.m., holiday shoppers will be able to drive through the project with no lane closures.

“We want to ensure that the thousands of people travelling for Thanksgiving arrive at their destinations quickly and safely without being impeded by road construction delays,” said Kristen Schropp, spokeswoman for the DFW Connector.

The $1.02 billion DFW Connector project is currently one year ahead of schedule, with a completion date of mid-summer 2013. The project is being built under a comprehensive development agreement (CDA) between the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) and NorthGate Constructors.
