The mask has been a part of performing since the beginning of theater and it has made a big come back in 2020.  It may be a little different today, but STARS Theater Company is embracing the new face covering and rounding out 2020 season of educational theater with two great musicals for young people ages 8-12 and teens.  STARS final shows of the season are two great comedies, WAY OUT WEST IN A DRESS, and THE EMPRESS’ NEW CLOTHES.  Auditions are scheduled for Saturday, August 1 at the Community Building, First United Methodist Church in Bedford, 2012 Shady Brook, Bedford.

Ages 8-12 audition for THE EMPRESS NEW CLOTHES, 10:00am-noon.

Teenagers audition for WAY OUT WEST IN A DRESS, 12:30pm-4:30pm

Teen actors will enjoy the hilarious WAY OUT WEST IN A DRESS.  The story opens with a travelling acting company down on their luck.  The group leader receives a letter from his late aunt stating he has inherited the Lucky Lady Saloon.  The group heads to Lucky Lady, Nevada to take over the saloon.  When they arrive, they realize there has been a little misunderstanding.  Rather than inheriting the Lucky Lady Saloon, he has inherited the Lucky Lady Salon.   As you can imagine, the story is packed with mistaken identities and comical confusion.  With an upbeat score and laughs on every page, teens will have a blast learning acting, singing, dancing and comic timing.   Plenty of male and female roles are available and all roles will be played by young people.  Performances are scheduled for January 8-10 & 15-17.

Young actors ages 8-12 will want to join in on the fun in THE EMPRESS’ NEW CLOTHES.   The story is a comical retelling of the classic tale with a fun twist.  THE EMPRESS’ NEW CLOTHES was originally scheduled to performed in May, but it was postponed due to Covid-19.   Although several of the cast are returning, we still have great roles available for both boys and girls.  The upbeat score includes songs such as There Was An Empress, and Magic Cloth.  Performances of THE EMPRESS’ NEW CLOTHES are scheduled for the end of September or as soon as we can bring our audience and actors together safely.

The safety of our students is our priority and STARS’ staff is taking precautions to protect our young actors during this time.   We wear face coverings including masks or face shields and the room is cleaned and disinfected before and after rehearsals.  STARS is an educational theater celebrating over 25 years in northeast Tarrant County.  As always, all roles will be played by young people.  Rehearsals are the 1st & 3rd Saturdays of each month and tuition is $100 per month.  Students study acting, singing, and dancing with STARS professional staff.  For information or audition materials call 817-925-1430.  www.STARSTheaterCompany.org
