This past Wednesday, 13 local graduating seniors were awarded scholarships for their leadership, volunteerism, academic excellence and for their personal goals.

Grapevine Rotary Club awarded scholarships of $1,500 to each of the seniors from high schools in Grapevine and Colleyville. Colleyville Rotary Club also contributed $1,500 for an additional scholarship. Since 2007, Grapevine Rotary has had a matching scholarship program with Tarrant County College District.

Those receiving the scholarships are Katherine 'Katie' Frankel (Grapevine High School - GHS), Nicholas Gray (GHS), Sarah Moore (GHS), Mary 'Katie' Porter (GHS), Bret Steinmann (Faith Christian School - FCS), Ilya 'Elijah' Zelenov (FCS), Amber Friend (Colleyville Heritage High School - CHHS), Taylor Demons (CHHS), Mariana Granados (CHHS), Marjaan Imam (CHHS), Desiree Pham (CHHS), Heather Roberts (CHHS), and Cory Shaffer (CHHS).

Since the Grapevine Rotary club was founded in 1967, it has awarded upwards of $410,000 in scholarships to accomplished students who possess strong personal goals.

Each year, Grapevine hosts a Golf for Grads tournament at the Cowboy Golf Club to raise the funds for the scholarships. The tournament and a raffle this year raised $22,693.60 for scholarships which will be awarded next spring to outstanding Grapevine/Colleyville students. The 91 members of Grapevine Rotary live by the motto "Service Above Self."
