Vetro Glassblowing Studio and Gallery has announced a new feature for this year's Glass on the Tracks event to be held Saturday, Nov. 3 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the studio, located at 701 S. Main St. in Grapevine.

David Gappa, founder of Vetro, is auctioning a one-of-a-kind fine art glass creation during his “Truth or Consequences” auction for which proceeds will be donated to the Emergency Artists' Support League, an organization that provides emergency grant funds to North Texas visual artists and visual art professionals.

The auction has gained a cult-like following because of what happens to several of the fine art glass vessels being auctioned. A patron is first picked randomly out of the crowd and asked a question about Vetro. If the answer is correct, the art piece is given to the patron for free. However, if the answer is incorrect, the piece goes up for bid. If the highest bid doesn't beat the artists' secret reserve price, the piece is placed in the jaws of the “Glass Guillotine” and smashed before the crowd.

For the first time, Gappa and his team of artists are working on a one-of-a-kind fine art glass creation, utilizing glass shard remnants from last year's glass guillotine victims. On Nov. 3, during Glass on the Tracks XIII, the new creation will be auctioned off in traditional fashion with proceeds donated to EASL. See the Glass Guillotine in action here.

For thirteen years, Vetro has celebrated the art of glass with its patrons during the annual Glass on the Tracks event. In front of the Vetro Glassblowing Studio and Gallery, the parking lot is blocked off for an evening of food, beverages, live music, glassblowing demonstrations, flameworking, pyrotechnic features and the glass guillotine.

This year's event is co-hosted by former NBC 5 news anchor Mike Snyder and former KLIF radio host David Yates. Glass on the Tracks will feature Austin musician Graham Wilkinson and incorporate pyrotechnics by flame artisan Greg Shaatt, who engineers fire stage shows for Metallica and Guns N’ Roses.

Tickets for Glass On The Tracks XIII can be purchased at www.GlassOnTheTracks.com or at the door.
