SOMA Grapevine, or South On Main Artists in Grapevine, has announced its first “Hot Arts, Cold Brew” event on Saturday, March 9 from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. at 701 South Main Street. During this event, SOMA Grapevine artists will shine a spotlight on their hot art techniques, including glassblowing, RAKU firing, hot molten metals sand-casting and blacksmithing.

There is no admission charge to visit the SOMA Grapevine studios and galleries, where guests will be able to watch artists' demonstrations. In some instances, guests will be able to enjoy hands-on art experiences for a fee. Neighboring Chill of Grapevine will be on-site to offer a selection of cold beer for purchase by guests of the event.

A dynamic lineup of working artists, studios and galleries located on South Main Street in the heart of historic Grapevine, Texas, SOMA Grapevine members include Vetro Glassblowing Studio and Gallery, Morgan Dane Art Gallery & Studios, Molten Metals Foundry and the Will Frary Blacksmith Forge.

For the “Hot Arts, Cold Brew” event, SOMA artists have an extensive list of activities. Vetro Glassblowing Studio and Gallery will be holding live glassblowing demonstrations where guests can watch the artists create art glass including Vetro's signature Imperial Beer Glasses. The Vetro studio features a 2,000-degree furnace and stadium-seating. In additition, Vetro will have three flameworkers demonstrating their trade in front of the gallery.

The Morgan Dane Teaching Studio will be presenting RAKU firing, a pottery performance art that creates a burst of color when pottery hot from the kiln is ignited in flames. RAKU performances are scheduled for 12 p.m., 2 p.m., 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.

Molten Metals Foundry sculptors will be demonstrating various hot metal sculpting techniques during the day and holding live castings at 1 p.m., 3 p.m. and 5 p.m., and Will Frary will be swinging his hammer at his Blacksmith Forge, sparking live blacksmithing throughout the event.

Other artists will be present during the March 9 event as well. The Teaching Studio will be holding pottery wheel-throwing demonstrations throughout the day, featuring first-edition “SOMASteins,” signature pottery beer steins. For a $25 donation to SOMA Grapevine, guests can step up and try their hand at the wheel for a half hour.

Additionally, two Morgan Dane Art Gallery artists - painter Ann Hardy and jewelry artist Jean Storm – will be on-site for meet and greets.
