Keeping the Faith: Soulman’s Bar-B-Que Stays the Course

Soulman’s opened its doors in Pleasant Grove, a suburb of Dallas, on October 19, 1974. Using timeless BBQ techniques and old family recipes (which they still use today), Soulman’s quickly became a popular destination for local residents and a welcomed departure from “run of the mill” Bar-B-Que.

Fast forward to 2021, and Soulman’s Bar-B-Que remains firmly rooted in the statement of purpose that the family-owned North Texas mainstay was founded on and continues to hang in each of their 18 locations:

Great Bar-B-Que

Great Service

Great GOD! (Romans 7:25)

Soulman’s Bar-B-Que has a long history of supporting the communities that they serve throughout North Texas.  "We believe our faith in Jesus compels us to get involved in our communities. Soulman's is a faith-friendly environment where we do not compartmentalize our faith at any level. As a result, Soulman's has become a trusted gathering place for great BBQ and fellowship, as well as a safe, fulfilling place to work." says Brett Randle, CEO of Soulman’s Bar-B-Que.

Four years ago, Soulman’s employed the company’s first-ever chaplain, available to provide spiritual guidance and compassionate pastoral care to employees. Chaplain Doug Barker has provided a source, for those who choose, to explore faith in the everyday challenges and triumphs in business and life. What began as internal weekly messages with topics such as: ‘What we can learn about the beauty of God from the daily shift changes into night?’ and ‘How we can fulfill everything that God has in mind for us?’ and ‘How can we be great?’ transitioned into uplifting Facebook videos available weekly on the Soulman’s Bar-B-Que Facebook page once the COVID-19 pandemic hit.

“We found that the engagement we had from sharing the videos online gave not only our employees but our customers a trusted voice to look toward while navigating 2020 with some uncertainty,” says Randle. “We at Soulman’s Bar-B-Que strive to be ‘servant leaders’ who care about others above all. Whether it is through the support of a local booster club, a venue for much-needed blood drives or distributors of drinking water to those in critical need, our community citizens and customers come first.”

“It is that tradition that has kept Soulman’s strong for more than 45 years, and we are committed to it, pandemic or not,” concludes Randle.
