GCISD

The GCISD Board of Trustees named veteran administrator and educator Gilbert Gonzales, Ph.D. principal of Silver Lake Elementary at its June 18 meeting. The position was previously held by Lisa Dunn who will be principal at Cross Timbers Middle School.

According to GCISD Superintendent Dr. Robin Ryan, Gonzales’ experiences and achievements closely match the needs of the SLE community.

"We are excited to welcome Dr. Gonzales into GCISD where he joins a team of strong teachers, positive parents and high achieving students," said Dr. Ryan. “His proven track record as an educator and administrator at several levels makes him a perfect fit for Silver Lake Elementary.”

Employed by Dallas ISD since 2007, Gonzales served as senior executive director for the Northwest Learning Community in DISD. In 2002-2003, Gonzales was named a finalist for DISD Principal of the Year.

With 20 years experience in the education field, Gonzales earned a bachelor’s in communication from the University of Texas at Arlington and a master’s in education from the University of Texas at Austin. He earned his doctorate in public affairs from the University of Texas at Dallas in 2011. He is also certified as a Bilingual/ESL Pk-6 instructor.

Gonzales will begin work at Silver Lake in July. The SLE PTA will host a community welcome for Gonzales on June 28.
