While the 2011-12 school year is not even half complete, the GCISD Board of Trustees has already approved the 2012-13 calendar.
At Monday night's school board meeting, members voted to approve the "Option B Calendar" which has August 27, 2012 selected as the first day of school. The "Option B Calendar" is supported by the District Excellence Committee as well as the majority of the community.
Local community members had the option to vote for one of two calendar options. More than 1,500 responses were received and 69 percent of the people who weighed in chose "Option B", according to a press release by GCISD.
The approved calendar has a start date on August 27th, with the fall semester ending on December 21, 2012. The last day of the school year will be June 5, 2013.
School Breaks include:
- one week for Thanksgiving
- two weeks for Winter Break
- one week for Spring Break (March 11-15, 2013)
Holidays include:
- Labor Day
- Columbus Day
- Martin Luther King, Jr., Day,
- Presidents’ Day/Washington’s Birthday
- Memorial Day
Bad weather makeup days are:
- April 1, 2013
- June 6, 2013
