An 11-year-old boy is in stable condition after he was struck by a car while crossing a Grapevine road, according to the Dallas Morning News.

The boy was hit by a pickup truck around 7:30 p.m. on Thursday near Dove Elementary School. Grapevine Police said the boy was not in a crosswalk and that the area near the 1900 block of Dove Road was dark. A helicopter transported him to Cook Children's Medical Center with a broken leg and head injuries.

Charges will not be filed against the driver because the boy did not use a crosswalk. 

Dove Elementary School Principal Becky Lamb posted an online letter for parents of children attending DES, assuring them that crisis counselors would be made available to students as needed. She also encourages parents to review safety information with their children.
