NASCAR driver Denny Hamlin made a special stop at Cross Timbers Middle School on Thursday, where he visited with sixth grade students as a part of the FedEx Racing "Race to Prepare" program. About 250 students attended the assembly, which was centered on the importance of being prepared for an emergency. Part of the program, sponsored by FedEx and the American Red Cross, included a "Race to Prepare" relay to build emergency preparedness kits. Students also had the chance to tour a Toyota Camry race car, a FedEx delivery truck, a Red Cross Hummer, and a fire truck from Grapevine.

FedEx chooses four cities each year to host the program. The program emphasizes emergency prepardness through emergency kits, family communication, evacuation plans, and educating the community about disasters.
